This four-hour tour covers about five miles of coastline and includes a stop on an island for a little beachcombing and exploration. We operate tours on both the east side and west side of Mount Desert Island, so you can choose your destination: the spectacular Porcupine Islands in Frenchman Bay near Bar Harbor, or the more remote Blue Hill Bay, on the "quiet side" of Mount Desert. Our half-day tours depart at several times each day during the summer, so you can always fit one into your schedule. Our Registered Maine Guides will provide excellent instruction in basic paddling technique and will help you keep a sharp eye out for harbor seals, porpoises and other marine and bird life, including bald eagles. This expanded version of our half-day tour gives you more time for exploration and for learning basic sea kayaking skills. We'll cover about 10 miles of coastline, paddling at a pace that everyone can enjoy, and we'll take rest stops on neighboring islands along the way. Chances are good that you'll see several kinds of wildlife, including harbor seals, porpoises, osprey and perhaps a bald eagle or two.

You'll want to bring your camera and a picnic lunch on this tour, which departs daily at 9:30 a.m. Our experienced guides will ensure that you'll have a great time and will come away with a new appreciation for the marine environment of Mount Desert Island. Cost: $72 per person.

This two-and-a-half hour tour will give you just enough sea kayaking to whet your appetite; it's perfect for people on a tight timetable or those who just want a taste of this rapidly growing sport. Usually conducted in the waters of Frenchman's Bay off Bar Harbor, this tour winds among the rugged Porcupine Islands. You'll receive basic instruction from one of our Registered Maine Guides, and you'll learn the paddling strokes that will keep you moving at a comfortable pace. With daily morning departures, this is a great introduction to sea kayaking, and many who take this tour follow it up within a few days with a lengthier one. Cost: $38 per person.

Like our popular harbor tour, this one last two-and-a-half hours; it's especially popular because you get a chance to paddle the waters around Mount Desert Island during the magical sunset hours. As nesting birds glide towards their home, you'll slice through island-studded waters, usually in Frenchman Bay. This is a great way to end a day in Acadia. Cost: $38 per person.

Designed for the person with previous paddling experience, this tour features solo kayaks; you'll have an opportunity to refine the skills that are necessary for a long-term commitment to sea kayaking. As time permits, your guide will be happy to answer your questions about paddling technique and give you tips on how to sharpen your kayaking skills. This five-hour tour allows us flexibility to explore some of the more remote routes surrounding Mount Desert Island. Cost: $62 per person.

If you have children under 12, this is the tour for you. Conducted at a pace appropriate for kids as well as adults, this tour is a great way for the entire family to experience the magic of sea kayaking. Minimum age is only 8, and our Registered Maine Guides will make sure that kids not only have a good time but learn something about the waters and wildlife of Mount Desert Island. This is something your entire family will talk about long after returning home from your vacation. The family tour leaves daily at 1:00 p.m. Cost: $48 per person.

Our three-day camping trips will give you a taste of the Maine coast that few people experience. You'll spend your days paddling the pristine waters of Maine's loveliest bays, with nights spent camping on beautiful uninhabited islands. All you need to bring is your taste for adventure; we provide all camping equipment, meals, guide service, logistical support and island access. (Most people prefer to bring their own sleeping bags, but we can provide them for a small fee.) Our guides are experienced wilderness cooks, so you can count on delectable meals, and we take along wine to heighten the dining experience. We keep our groups small to preserve the sense of wilderness adventure.

Our island camping expeditions depart on Friday mornings and return on Sunday afternoons. Departure dates for 2009 are June 26, July 10, July 24, Aug. 7, Aug. 21 and Sept. 4. Cost: $399 per person.
